Influences

Ok. I did have new work to put up tonight for the band "Means to an End", however due to me not being at home I dont have access to a scanner to put that up. Either way I thought I would take the chance to write about some of my biggest influences in terms of art.

First, let me talk about one of the biggest influences on me, a certain mr Ben Templesmith, This love started after seeing his work on the comic Dying Inside, a Story based within the Silent Hill world. The dark style suited the subject matter down to the ground, making the comic one of my all time favourites. Since then I have continued to follow his work and even met the man himself. One of the best days ever, he looked through my portfolio at the time and was impressed, its always cool to hear that from your hero! He signed my now out of print Templesmith art books, so those are now treasured possessions.

Next up is another huge influence, infact so much so that he made me take a bit of a break from comics and realise that there is so much more I could do. The awesome GodMachine. He does alot of work for various bands, I came into contact with him when I saw his work for the band Ignominous Incarceration which jus happened to be a friend's cousin's band, which again is pretty cool.

Another artist I love with a similar style is Dan Mumford, again an artist who works with alot of bands, but discovering this artist is completely down to my Awesome designer friend Liam Twelve asking me to "make my work more Mumford-like". Im so glad he did.

The latest artist to make me go "Shit! i need to pick up my pencil a little more!" is Sin Eater, this guy is a local illustrator and has completely opened up my eyes to how much more potential there is in my favourite medium, Ink. His inkwork and patterns absolutley blow my mind and make me realise just how much harder im gonna have to work to get good at this. In all honesty I get a little star struck when I see this guy around Hereford, but I can't bring myself to ask him how he produces his work haha!

Finally (at least for now) Alex Pardee. This guys line work is Insane, this guy made me drop my pens for a bit and focus on nothing but brush and i think i have bettered myself for it. The cute-Horror aspect of it really appeals to me, I love how you can look at some parts and they are pleasant and you can look at other parts of the same piece and they are quite horrific. pure briliance.
